Maj. Kiewnarski A.W. crashed 28.8.1942 with Wellington Z1245.
Taken POW in Stalag Luft as PoW no. 42801.
He joined the Allied officers' escape bid in March 1944. 
He has been re-captured at Hirschberg, Germany and was 
last seen alive on 31 March 1944.
He was executed by German Gestapo.

"Great Escape"
Six Airmen buried in the Poznań Garrison Cemetery have been killed after the 
"Great Escape" from Stalag Luft III at Żagan, Poland. 

They were killed by German Gestapo and later on cremated. 
The urns containing the ashes were placed in a special mausoleum in the camp.
 In 1994 all the ashes were transferred  to Poznań.
