War Graves Plot Section D, Row 1, Grave 721

On the 12th of August 1941 whilst on a training exercise, two airplanes
of the same training unit flew straight into the slopes of Slight Side.

Sierż. pil. Karubin Stanisław, piloting Hawker Hurricane
nr. V7742 and por. pil. Höhne Zygmunt piloting Hawker Hurricane
nr. V6565 were killed in the crash which was undoubtedly
caused by them flying in cloud and obviously being unaware of their
exact position.

The wreckage is found only a short walk from the summit of Slight Side
and is well worth a short de-tour from the usual route across the fellside
to have a look.
